10.000 m2 At a photovoltaic plant

Solar energy to transform the electricity
consumption of the major food hub,
Mercazaragoza.

The photovoltaic plant developed at Mercazaragoza is part of the energy transition strategy for Zaragoza’s primary agrifood complex. With an area of approximately 10,000 m² dedicated to solar generation, the project integrates photovoltaic technology aimed at optimizing electricity consumption and reducing the energy footprint of the site’s industrial and logistical facilities.

The solar infrastructure has a capacity of approximately 1.5 MW and is designed to generate renewable energy for the self-consumption of the food complex’s facilities. This energy production helps reduce electricity costs and CO2 emissions, while reinforcing the site’s energy sustainability model. The installation is part of Mercazaragoza’s strategic energy efficiency plan, which is committed to integrating renewable generation into its industrial and logistical infrastructure.

Energy Self-Consumption and Solar Power Generation for the Logistics Industry

The solar power plant is integrated into an energy self-consumption model aimed at improving the electrical efficiency of the food processing facility. The energy generated helps supply a portion of the electrical needs for logistics warehouses, industrial installations, and auxiliary services, reducing dependence on the conventional power grid and optimizing the facility’s energy consumption. The installation incorporates solar panels distributed over approximately 10,000 m² (107,639 sq ft) of surface area, capable of transforming solar radiation into renewable electricity. This technology allows for continuous generation of clean energy during peak radiation hours, contributing to improved energy sustainability for the food logistics complex.

Renewable Energy for Logistics

The 1.5 MW installed capacity allows it to power part of the energy infrastructure of Mercazaragoza, one of the Ebro Valley’s main food distribution hubs. This project reinforces the role of renewable energy in the food industry and demonstrates how photovoltaic generation can be integrated into large logistics platforms to improve their energy efficiency.
