High Voltage Transformed into a Competitive Advantage for ICT Ibérica's Industrial Plant
The 45/15 kV substation developed for ICT Ibérica constitutes a strategic infrastructure within the company’s production environment. Spanning an area of 1,200 m², the project incorporates highly reliable electrical technology aimed at ensuring the continuous supply required by an industrial paper mill with high energy consumption.
With a total power of 30 MW, the installation efficiently transforms and distributes energy to manufacturing lines, auxiliary processes, and technical systems within the plant. The design integrates transformers, medium-voltage switchgear, protection systems, operational control, and supervision systems that enhance operational safety and supply quality. This energy infrastructure not only covers current production needs but also provides scalability for future industrial growth and improvements in energy efficiency.
Industrial energy core
The substation acts as the plant’s nerve center, receiving high-voltage power and adapting it to the levels required for internal consumption. This function is key to maintaining continuous production processes, minimizing incidents, and ensuring a robust electrical environment in a technically demanding industry.
Capacity for production
The installed 30MW reliably supply industrial machinery, conversion lines, pumping systems, and auxiliary services. This power capacity provides operational flexibility during peak demand, enhances production process stability, and supports intensive manufacturing characteristic of the paper industry.
Technology and reliability
The project incorporates switchgear, electrical protection, and advanced monitoring to optimize the facility’s energy management. The combination of technology and engineering design improves safety, facilitates industrial maintenance, and reduces the risk of disruption in critical infrastructure for continuous production.
This is a transformer substation with 45kV (input) and 15kV (output) voltages. The substation is an indoor type, with the switchgear for both levels housed in compartmentalized metal enclosures. Protection and control are implemented using protection relays with integrated control, which are located in the same enclosures for the 15kV positions, and in independent control cabinets for the 45kV positions. The 45/16kV, 15MVA power transformer is located outdoors, on a concrete pad with an oil containment pit for subsequent collection and processing in accordance with environmental regulations.
